Alright. I can't say that I really understand this novel, and in fact, the fact that I even have a slight understanding of it is thanks to the Afterword, which does a great job of highlighting the nuance in the prose itself.

It's possible that I would like this more if I read it again. And it's possible that I would like it again if I watched the Netflix film. I'm not sure I want to do that. The characters are... not lovely people, and while that doesn't usually deter me (actual people are not very good either), I don't know that I'd like to visit with them again.
