Unabridged Ructions
Sharp, Messy, and Brilliant
Orlando by Virginia WoolfMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
I had a really good time reading this... even when I was occasionally confused, I was still completely engaged.
This book is weird, in the best way. It plays with time, identity, gender, and society in a way that's messy, funny, and surprisingly sharp. It shouldn't work as well as it does... but somehow it does.
What really made this a win for me were the "YES, this!" moments... those lines or ideas that make you want to jump up and tell someone about them immediately. Woolf has a way of sneaking in these sharp, observant, sometimes hilarious truths.
This one will definitely stay on my mind, and I'm glad for it.
