I liked this. Really, I did. The mystery was compelling, the reveal genuinely surprised me, and the characters were well-developed and distinct. There was a lot to like here.
But there was also... something... something that didn't quite click. Maybe it was the prose? The writing was undeniably pretty, but perhaps it was overindulgent? And the end was not my favorite. Not the "twist", but the "after". It felt like the emotional weight fizzled instead of landing.
Still, it's a solid read. It's richly layered and gothically mysterious, and I would recommend it to people who like that sort of thing.
