Ya'll, I try to be very generous when giving out stars on Goodreads, because it really is, for better or worse, where most people looking for reviews go. When I say this is a 3-star read, I really mean it's a 2.5-star read, and I don't really understand what any of these "an average of 4.05-stars" folks were reading.
Was the writing bad? Not really, though it was nothing to write home about... (see what I did there?) Was the premise bad? Debatable. It had promise... but let me tell you about a miscommunication trope.... no, never mind, that's a rant for another time. But this might be the most insane miscommunication trope I've ever read, and not in a quirky way. In a dumb way.
And don't get me started on the fact that this SEEMINGLY CAPABLE, INDEPENDENT woman just all of a sudden loses her backbone. I was all ready for her to tell this arrogant d-bag where to shove it, but instead it's all ... "woe is me" and "I just can't understand why..." Lady, hush.
So, anyway... I didn't really like it. But it's not really bad. 🤷♀️
