Survival Was Never the Worst Outcome
The Butcher's Masquerade by Matt DinnimanMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
Absolutely phenomenal. Again.
By book five, you'd think the chaos would wear thin, but instead, Dinniman sharpens the edge. The spectacle is still there, but underneath the madness, this book cuts.
"They do that. If you survive long enough in this place, they’ll eventually make you turn on your own party. It happens every time. You’ll regret making it as far as you have, no matter who is helping you. No matter how close you are, we’re all alone in the end. Alone and broken with the choices we’ve had to make."
That's the core of this installment. Survival with a cost. The system doesn't just kill you, it corrupts you. It's not just the government and the corporate greed this time. It's us. Society. The spectators who keep watching. The people who can't, or won't, pull themselves out of the blood-soaked cycle.
It's an uncomfortable mirror being held up...
This series just keeps outdoing itself. Hilarious, horrifying, and unsettlingly relevant.

If Taylor Swift or Adele can profit off of heartache, I’m quite certain I can as well. It’ll make for a good song.
