Amnesia

The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1)The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book had all the ingredients I usually love: clever banter, elaborate heists, and a richly grim fantasy setting. There were moments that made me laugh out loud (though I’d struggle to quote them now) and a finale that was undeniably tense. But for every high point, I found myself adrift, unsure of the stakes or why certain plot twists mattered. By the time I finished, my personal one-word review summed it up: "AMNESIA." (The rest of my book club landed on words like "confusion" and "verbose," which tracks.)

The Interludes were the exception. Those flashbacks brimmed with life, offering the character depth and emotional weight I craved from the main story. Lynch’s writing is sharp, if a little long-winded, and Camorr is a fascinating world, but the pacing and convoluted schemes left me more bewildered than invested.

I didn’t dislike it, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression. It was a fleeting adventure, memorable mostly for how quickly it faded.
